News From Big Sandy Camp

Director's Corner

I have started this section many times and restarted just as many. There is so much to say and so little space. I wish I could just sit down with each of you over a cup of coffee and share my heart for Camp and Kingdom work. If you're ever up in the area, please stop by! When my husband, Scott, and I felt called to come to camp in mid-2023, I never would have imagined that I would be writing to you as the Camp Director. I am humbled to be able to lead an organization that has meant so much to me personally as well as to so many of you. I have been privileged to hear some of your stories about how BSC has had a lifelong impact, and I look forward to hearing many more! God continues to use BSC as a place where people--young and mature--encounter God and His transforming grace. God used BSC to challenge and grow me as a young person. As I began doing youth and kids ministry in churches, camp ministry was always a part of our annual program and I developed our camps from my memory of my years at BSC. There is something about camp--pulling away from the rigors of life to a place in nature that draws us into the presence of God. God continues to leave His mark on people's lives at BSC! I am excited to be part of the continuing legacy of lives changed through the unique and special work of camp!

Projects

We have a terrific team of people working at Big Sandy Camp and we want you to get to know them more, what they do and why they love BSC!

Meet Carissa LaValle

Carissa and her family came to Big Sandy Camp in September of 2024. While she had little connection with BSC, she has worked at 3 different camps throughout the years. Most recently she'd enjoying staying at home with her 2 children. She and her husband, Tyrel, share that they'd been at BSC for 2 days when they looked at each other and said, "We're home".

Carissa is the Office Manager at camp. When she's not in the office, you'll find her playing with her kids in the yard, building Legos, or quilting.

Adopt a Project!

There are NUMEROUS ways that you can help better camp! We always have a running list that includes things like painting, repairing boardwalks, cleaning, groundswork, minor and major repairs of both indoor and outdoor facilities, and much more! Camp needs a lot of love and we need YOU, Your Youth Group, Your Family, and Your Church to pick a project! Help make camp better so God can continue to use Big Sandy Camp for generations. Please contact us if you are interested in choosing a project! Let's get some days on the calendar for you to come make it happen!

I want to Pick a Project!
